Codes And Conventions

In order to complete my task i must follow the main codes and conventions of magazines.
The main codes and conventions of magazines in general are as follows;

  • The must include A House Style this is when the writing and background on almost every page follows the same font and colouring this is used to show that the pages are apart of the same magazine.

  • A masthead this is the title it should me be placed at the top of the page, be bigger than the other headlines and also a different style to stand out.

  • A main image, this is quite self explanitory, it should be larger than the other images and should be something to do with the main story.

  • A headline, this is the main statement usually in the largest boldest font prior to the title, it should be connected to the main image as it is usually explaining the main story.

  • A tag, this is a word or phrase used to engage the readers in a story by categorising it for example 'World exclusive', 'Sensational'.

  • An exlusive, this is a story that the magazine in question and no one else soly cover the story. The magazine will pay the people who have given them the 'Exclusive' information at hand, so that they will promise not to tell another paper the story.

  • A box out, a small part of the page shaded in a different colour.

  • A Lure, a word or phrase directing the reader to read on to a particular story or feature.

  • Pugs, these are at the top left and right hand corners of the magazine. The price of the magazine, the logo or a promotion. they are placed where they are to catch the readers eye.
